I had these addictive bite-size goodies at a baby shower last weekend, and yesterday, I looked up a recipe so I could make some for myself.
I followed this version from My Recipes, though I used dried dill (half the called-for amount), green onions instead of chives, and regular cucumbers instead of English cucumbers. I poached the shrimp as directed, but I used medium shrimp instead of large.
That sounds like a lot of modifications, but really, I didn’t change it that much. 😉
(By the way, except for the dill and chives, you can get everything you need for this recipe at Aldi.)

Our Aldi's has a dill dip which is excellent and I serve it with some Greek dishes as a good replacement for the Z sauce.

While those look delish, I am curious about the baby shower. How do you handle being frugal and generous (assuming you want to be generous!) at such an event?

Well, I figure that gift-giving is not an occasion to die on the frugality hill if I don't have to. But neither do I think it's necessary to drop hundreds of dollars on a gift. So, I just try to maintain a middle ground, and I try to be a mindful spender and buy quality items (for instance, I prefer to buy a solid wood baby toy than a plastic one).
Since I'm pretty frugal in other areas of my life, I think it's fun to be a little more spendy than usual when I give gifts (while still staying within my budget constraints, of course!)

Does anyone else get nervous that the Aldi seafood is imported from Thailand or China? I've looked and have never seen any local seafood.

I struggle with this as well. I just noticed that Aldi does have organic ground beef (which I'm going to buy after I leave work today!) and they have just started to make a habit of advertising which produce is local (this week it's celery, at least here in Wisco). For me personally, meat is where I draw the line for Aldi - I just can't stomach or consciously support the factory farms. I have a hard time finding truly sustainable fish/seafood unfortunately.

I'm puzzled. What's the difference between an 'English' cucumber and a 'regular' cucumber, please? J (from England)

Well, at least here in the US, the English cucumbers are longer, thinner, and have fewer seeds in the middle.
