A last round of somersaults

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I post a picture and just a few words.

Though our kids were all in favor of getting wood floors instead of carpet, the girls saw one small downside: no more cushy hallway for long somersaulting runs.

So, before the floors went in last week, Sonia and Zoe both took one last somersault trip out of the living room, down the hall, and back.

Kristen - thank you so much. Your post just gave me my "biggest smile of the week". Something that I never thought of and you made it come to life with your photo.

Aww, I'm glad it made you smile!

Aw... Moments of childhood frozen in time... Making final memories of something as it's ending. Sigh. I'm way too sentimental. I have a 3 year old and an 8 month old and I can't believe how fast it's already going.

I love it that you're making memories from little things like this, as well as big things like birthdays and vacations!

Do you have a frugal suggestion for wood floors? We're thinking of putting them in but they're pretty costly. Of course, they'll last a lot longer than carpet.....

Well, we got ours from a warehouse place, where we were able to get solid red oak hardwood for $3.09/square foot. That wasn't all that much more than the price of carpet, so that made us think this could be do-able!

And yes, I'm a HUGE believer in photographing the little moments as much (or maybe more than!) the big moments. Sometimes the small moments are more fun to look back on, oddly enough.

We have never had carpet. I have a yoga mat I lay down when people want to tumble. And they can play "Slip in Your Socks" (I don't know when this game was invented, but it's very popular ;)) anytime they want.

I kind of miss carpet, which I had growing up, because vacuuming is just one step while sweeping and mopping is two steps. But, I've still got a bunch of littles, so there's a lot of messes that need mopping being made. My mom claims that she has mopped their wood floor just a handful of times since they got it (and several of those times were while my kids were visiting!) and it has stayed really clean and shiny.

Love this! I did this in my own house growing up!
