Food Waste Friday-Last one for June!

Happily, I had nothing to take a picture of today…no waste for me. 🙂 That’s probably only because I didn’t buy any cilantro last week. Ahem.

revived cilantro in a glass of water.

I did buy some this week, though, and I am determined not to waste it. It only cost me $.33 (actually it was free because it rang up at the wrong price!), but I’d still like to avoid wasting it.

I need help avoiding food waste this week. Trying to figure out what to do with half a burger, half a bratwurst, some oven fries, and two cobs of corn. See my post for more details: http://copingwithfrugality.blogspot.com/2009/07/preventing-food-waste.html Thanks! :)

I had to throw out (well, compost)half a loaf of whole wheat bread. I don't buy it that often, my son eats a grilled cheese once a week or so, and a few Nutella sandwiches (chocolate hazelnut heavenly spread I developed a taste for in the Old Country) so I usually keep the loaf in the freezer. I forgot it and it stayed in the pantry too long. Luckily, the piece I pulled out had a huge and very visible spot of mold on it, so I saw it right away. Otherwise, my son would accuse me of trying to kill him. :-) I should make my own bread, but I have laziness issues. Also, it's too hot. I did make your oatmeal quick bread (baked in a cake pan) last week and it was so yummy. That's definitely going in to the repertoire, thanks for sharing the recipe. And I (crazy mostly vegan anti-egg lady) used Ener-G egg replacer and it worked great!

Well, I went out to the garden today and was confronted by LOADS of kale. Does anyone have any suggestion for what to do with it so that I am not including pictures of kale in my next food waste Friday? Here is a link to my blog about it: http://copingwithfrugality.blogspot.com/2009/06/kale.html

Well done Kristen - what a great result. We have one banana; you have to visit the site just to see the photo of it LOL!

Great job! I had to add grapes to the compost pile. Fortunately, I found some great recipes to use up my old bananas.

You really need to grow your own cilantro, because you use it frequently, but not in large amounts. Or get a guinea pig to eat up the leftovers, they love cilantro. They also love leftover parsley, brocoli stems, lettuce ribs, carrot tops...
