Every week, I post a picture of the food that has gone bad over the last seven days. I started doing this in March of 2008 to help motivate myself to use up my food instead of wasting it and it’s been very effective. Since it helped me so much, I invited other bloggers to join me in posting their food waste photos, and Food Waste Friday was born.
(note: if seeing mold grosses you out, you’ll want to skip this week’s Food Waste Friday post!)
Here’s my waste for the week.
I’ve wasted citrus fruit before, but yogurt? I’ve never had yogurt in my photo before!
You know how sometimes on Food Waste Friday, I’m all, “I’m not sure if this is bad, but I’m going to err on the side of caution.”?
This is not one of those weeks. Because this lemon…
is most definitely bad. And this yogurt…
is most assuredly bad. Yogurt jars should never be hairy.
I’m not quite sure how this happened. Normally when I make yogurt, I put the new jars in the back of the fridge and the old ones in the front, but I think I must have made a mistake with this jar.
The lemon will be composted and the yogurt will be washed down the drain, so at least I’m not going to have to chuck any of this into the landfill.

I've never made Yoghurt but am planning on it..... However I have been assured you can make pefectly good yoghurt from Yoghurt even after it has gone bad.... So it could be put to use if it ever goes bad again.

That jar was SO hairy, I would be scared to eat anything I took out of it! lol I dumped it down the drains and sterilized the jar and lid.

I had some yogurt that I knew we weren't going to eat up in time so I made yogurt cheese out of it. It was actually pretty good. We ate some of it on cinnamon & sugar toast and then I blended the rest with marshmallow creme for a fruit dip. (I know, not the healthiest, but it was a yummy snack!)

I freaking LOVE dip made with cream cheese and marshmallow cream. It's like heaven when you dip bananas into it. lol
