I actually didn’t waste any food this week, so instead of having a pictureless post, I thought I’d do an update on my cupboard cleaning from a week or two ago.
I didn’t make as much progress on using these items as I’d hoped to, but I was completely successful at using up my evaporated milk! I used it whenever I was baking bread or rolls, and I got through these three cans plus one more that was hiding.
Also, I read that Cooks Illustrated decided that natural peanut butter beat out regular peanut butter for just one use-baking cookies. Their peanut butter cookie recipe called for peanuts, though, and I had none. However, I just picked some up yesterday(at Aldi, naturally), so I will hopefully have used up most of the peanut butter by next Friday.
I wanted to use the Eagle Brand to bake something as well, but all the recipes I have that call for condensed milk also call for chocolate chips, and I had none of those either. I now am the proud owner of a bag of chocolate chips, though, so I have no more excuses. It should be a good dessert week at our house. 😉

Are you still sitting on the white rice? What about rice pudding? You are so creative, I'm betting you could use the condensed milk for that. Maybe chocolate chips too...
You inspired me to clean out my cupboards. I have started dating everything (month/year) as I buy it so that I know not only how old it is, but how long it takes me to go through things like beans, corn, soup, etc. I am also currently in possession of 4 cans of sweetened condensed milk with absolutely no memory of buying it. It will probably be cheesecake or key lime pie this weekend :)
Keep up the good work, Kristen!

Did you know that you can soak the steel cut oats overnight in an equal amount of yogurt and then eat them with some fruit on top? Makes a great breakfast!

As you can read at my blog, I was really hoping for a no waste week, but alas, it was not to be. Next week though, for sure! :)
