Grocery Spending and Menu-1.17

Unfortunately, my string of $80 weeks has come to an end(hopefully just for one week!). I spent $33.96 at Aldi’s and $55 at Weis, for a total of $88.96. My freezers(I have a chest freezer in addition to my regular freezer) and my cabinets are awfully full of food right now, though, so I think I will not need to buy much next week. I’m shooting for a $71 bill, which would put me right back on track for an $80 average.

One of my readers asked if I could post exactly what I manage to buy for $80, so I will try to list that occasionally. If I remember, I’ll take a picture of my groceries too.

Here’s what I’m cooking this week:

Saturday

  • Tacos
  • fresh fruit

Sunday

  • Buttermilk Pancakes
  • fried cornmeal mush

Monday

  • Tortellini Soup
  • No-knead rolls
  • grapes

Tuesday

  • Slow-Cooked Chicken with White Wine and Cream
  • Brown Rice
  • green salad

Wednesday

  • Grilled bratwurst on buns
  • grapes
  • potato chips

Thursday

  • Oven-Fried Chicken
  • Buttermilk Biscuits
  • Applesauce

Friday

  • Grilled Pizza(it’s supposed to be 47, and I hope the weathermen are right!)

I was going to ask the same thing as Debbie! If it turns out well, please do share the recipe! I'm always looking for good slow-cooker recipes.

I'm really wondering how you do manage to spend just $80 a week on groceries. I know my folks spend a good deal more than that. Granted, that is for six adults but still.

I do plan on moving out this year so I'm trying to teach myself meal planning and and grocery shopping around meals. Any tips on that would be welcome. :-)

Maybe it's just me but I look at your list of meals and it seems incomplete. Are sides like potatoes, rice etc. just assumed?

I need to get groceries tomorrow and I hope I am able to keep within our 80.00 a week budget as well. I usually buy two weeks of groceries at a time. Wish me luck!
