Grocery Spending and Menu-1.24

I didn’t quite meet my goal of $71 for last week, unfortunately. I spent $5 at Giant(grapes were $.99 a pound), I spent $31.44 at Aldi, and $41.23 at Weis. So, I’m clocking in at $77.67. I did remember to take a picture of all my groceries, and hopefully on Monday I’ll do a post listing exactly what I managed to buy for $77(a couple of people requested that).

Anyhoo, here’s what I’m cookin’ this week! And for those of you that are new, here’s a post about our breakfasts and lunches.

Saturday

  • Baked Potato Soup
  • Cheese bagels
  • grapes(I know that’s a weird thing to have with soup, but it’s what we got cheaply this week!)

Sunday

  • Waffles
  • grits
  • orange juice

Monday

  • Whole Roasted Chicken
  • Garlic Knots(basically a knotted breadstick tossed with garlic butter)
  • Spinach Salad

Tuesday

  • Italian-Style Sausage and Beans
  • grapefruit halves
  • plain bagels

Wednesday

  • Romaine Chicken Salad with Spiced Pecans
  • Garlic Pull-apart Bread

Thursday

  • Tilapia Fillets broiled with butter and Old Bay
  • Applesauce
  • English Muffins

Friday

  • Deep Dish Pizza

It also makes a huge difference that the carbs her family eats are from healthy, homemade bread, not storebought, processed, sugar and chemical laden loaves.

I make a loaf of homemade whole wheat bread every week and eat about two slices a day, and I eat whole wheat pastas and brown rice or couscous and I don't have the same cruddy carb crash feeling anymore but I still eat all the bread and pasta I want ;)

Yeah, we do eat a lot of bread. Since I can make our own, it's a really cheap food.

I don't think I could ever do the low-carb thing...I would be one crabby girl! lol

Boy, you guys sure eat a lot of bread! I'm trying to cut out as many carbs as I can (it makes me feel a lot better), but am often a bit stumped to find cheap dishes that fill you up, so we have lots of vegetables and salads, which unfortunately do not always hit the spot like only fresh bread can... :-)

You know, as I was making the soup today, I was wondering if I should post the recipe. I'll try to do that sometime this week.

I am on the hunt for a good baked potato soup recipe, and I believe I have seen you mention Baked Potato soup a couples times on your menu plan...which means it must be a yummy staple dinner around your house. Could I possibly get the recipe from you?
