I apologize for the lack of a food waste post yesterday. We’ve been putting down new flooring in our office, so I’ve been busy, and I’ve not had access to my usual computer. My desk and computer are all put back together now, though, so hopefully tomorrow I will get a food waste photo up.
I spent $45.62 at Aldi’s and $32.70 at Weis, which is $78.32. Happily, that’s a few dollars shy of the low end of my $80-$100 a week budget. I’ve had quite a few of these weeks recently, and I think it must be because of my Aldi’s shopping. Love that store!
Saturday
- Clam Chowder in bread bowls(I make these using french bread dough)
- grapefruit halves
Sunday
- We’re visiting some friends, and shockingly enough, I’m bringing bread. 😉
Monday
- Swiss Mushroom Chicken(I have some Swiss to use from last week’s Beef au Jus)
- English Muffin bread
- Spicy Carrots (I use regular carrots, since they’re cheaper)
Tuesday
- Shrimp and Fish Creole(I’m using up some celery)
- Challah
- steamed broccoli
Wednesday
- Chicken Quesadillas
- fruit salad
- chips and salsa
Thursday
- Salmon with Creamy Dill Sauce (although I never make the sauce!)
- cheese bagels
- spinach salad
Friday
- pizza

Hi, I'm a new reader and you are inspiring me to work harder to save money!
Is there any way that you could post an occasional shopping list so we could see HOW you manage to spend so little? We are a family of 6, and my monthly budget is $600, including toileties, pet food, and other miscellania. Even though I plan my menus, watch sales, cook from scratch, and am careful with coupons, I still usually go over. Help!!!
Thank you!

Hi Janeen! and welcome!
I'm kinda dreading the day when my children eat more. Right now the younger two aren't big eaters, and I know that will change at some point.

I found your site from your cousin Bethany when you posted about it on a wall on facebook. I really have enjoyed what I have read so far. I also post my weekly menu and try to track my grocery spending as well. I try to keep my budget around the same amount of 80 to 100 for my family of 5. It is getting a little harder as at this point we were are more at like 4 adults and 1 child. So the amount of food eaten seems to be increasing!!! I will bookmark and check back again!

I know...a can of cream soup just doesn't do it for me when I want to make a creamy sauce.
I do occasionally use the onion soup mix(like when I make my Onion Beef Au Jus), but I don't even use that very often.

Kristen, I didn't think you'd use canned soup in a recipe since you don't usually buy processed foods. So many recipes I come across that people say are fabulous either have creamed soup and/or dry onion soup mix in it! Sodium content is through the roof as well as fat! YUK!
