Guess what I finally have??

A clothesline with pastel clothes hanging on it.

An honest-to-goodness clothesline!! Woohoo!

Motivated by a huge increase in electric rates, I’ve been air-drying (see, I can’t even say line drying) our clothes for about a year now, using a combination of two folding drying racks, hangers, and our deck railings(!).

This has sufficed, but I’m thrilled to have a clothesline now. This gives me a lot more drying space, and I also can finally line-dry my sheets (sheets really do not work on a drying rack!).

I don’t have any clothepins yet, as the three stores I’ve checked have been sold out. Apparently everyone else is jumping on the line-drying bandwagon too.

The clothesline that I have is a retractable one, so as soon as my clothes are finished drying, I can wind it back up (which makes my backyard look a lot better).

Oh yeah…don’t be TOO envious of the lush grass we have growing in our backyard. =P

Hopefully in the fall, we’ll get around to killing it and planting something other than, oh, ground ivy and dandelions.

I have indoor and outdoor clothes lines. My indoor ones are retractable. I also have 4 drying racks to use indoors or out.

I love to hang out washing on the line. I have to have wooden pegs though as when I had the brightly coloured plastic ones I got irritated when the colours didnโ€™t match! I laugh at myself about this but I simply cannot put a red and a yellow peg on one item of clothing โ€ฆ. I may need help :) :) :) xx

I just found out about you and your site while trying to find The Ultimate Cheapskate and I love how many ideas you have. So I started back to the first post and here I am! I have been kinda reluctant to get a clothesline for so long mostly cuz I live in an apartment for college students. I don't know whether I'll do it now but for sure when I get my own place (or a place with a balcony!) I'm definitely doing this!

Enjoy, Kristen! You just can't beat the smell of clothes that have been line dryed. The freshness is heavenly. I'm just wishing the rain would let up enough here so I can get back to line drying.
