My schedule is kind of wonky today, which is why I’m typing this up at 9:45. 😉 And the wonky schedule is why I’m just gonna throw together a post of random snippets.
When the girls had a friend over for two days last week, we made the moldable chocolate cookie dough.
Which is supposed to be bears or pretzels, but very little of our dough ends up as those two items, because my kids like to be more creative.
We went swimming a LOT in the last week.
Zoe thought she could hide behind her feet.
But I’m patient enough to wait for feet to move. 😉
I let the kids use my camera, and as I looked through the files, I found proof that Zoe is not the only clown in our family.
I’m not sure who took this one, but I like the sparkles.
I’m working on all the small projects necessary to put Sonia and Zoe’s room back together…switchplates, hanging things on the wall, and also a bunch of spray painting.
I have a fair number of random items that are going to go together on their walls, so I’m spray painting them all white so that they’ll match.
I just have a few things left to paint, and then I need to fill the frames with the photos the girls want.
Then curtains, a wall of chalkboard paint, and I think I’ll be done!
Mr. FG was out of town for work earlier this week, so I made BBQ chicken, because the kids like it, and he’s not a big fan.
I used a head of cauliflower from my produce box to make these cauliflower breadsticks, and while we felt no one could possibly confuse them with real breadsticks, they did meet with more kid approval than any other cauliflower recipe I’ve tried.
(please excuse the not-lovely photo, taken after the sun went down)
The only thing is, they made the house smell funky. I hate that about broccoli/cauliflower/cabbage. Why must they be so odiferous?? The smell makes me not want to cook them at all.
Alllllrighty…that’s all the snippets from me for today. I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Just tried the cauliflower breadsticks today. Everyone liked them except for my daughter (but she is picky anyway). My husband and I are on a low carbohydrate diet, and these were a good alternative to real breadsticks. I'll have to try the recipe author's suggestion of using as a pizza crust.

Do you have a hard time getting a good night's sleep when your husband is away? I always seem to hear every little noise. Just curious if I'm the only one with this problem and what you do to remedy it.

I do, but not so much because I'm scared or worried. I just don't seem to sleep as well without him in bed next to me! After 18 years of sleeping with someone almost every night, I guess it's just a little hard to be by myself.

Amazing how spray painting random things makes a grouping so cohesive. Can't wait to see pictures of the girls finished room!!
Have you tried this cauliflower trick? I steam it until it's soft, then purée with salt, pepper, and grated Parmesan. Kinda like mashed potatoes!

Have you tried cooking broccoli and cauliflower on the grill? I cut it up, throw it on a square of heavy duty foil, drizzle it with a bit of oil (avocado or olive oil) and season to my taste (usually a bit of salt, garlic powder and red pepper). It cooks up fast, is scrumptious and no funny house smells!

I find it less stinky to roast it in the oven too---that's why we mainly eat cauliflower in the winter. I throw some herbs/spices on and it smells similar to roasted brussel sprouts, but not as good as roasted carrots or potatoes. I'll have to try the grill method. (spellcheck keeps telling me "brussel" is wrong?)

I'll have to try that. I was wishing my grill had one of those side burners so that I could steam stinky veggies outside!
