I’ve got more photography posts coming your way, promise, but for today, I wanted to share two freebies that can help you improve your photography.
1) A free download on photo composition
I’ve learned almost all of what I know about photography by reading. I’ve done lots of online reading and I’ve also checked out pretty much every book on photography from my library.
I even read the books written before the advent of DSLR’s because solid advice about exposure and composition is timeless.
Photo composition is super-duper important no matter what camera you use, and there’s a free 12-page download on photo composition available right now via the Ultimate Bundles people.
Learning better photo composition skills will improve your photos whether you shoot with a DSLR or a camera phone.
Photo composition is allllll about your skills, not your equipment, and this 12-page guide has lots of great tips.
I’ve touched on composition in my Shoot Better posts, and readers have written in to say how just a few simple changes in how they compose their photos have made a HUGE difference.
Everything in this download is simple to understand and will be helpful even if you are a very, very beginning photographer.
Go get your copy now and improve your photos for free!
(I just read my copy and am freshly inspired to use the framing idea in my shots. Love that wedding shot through the curtains.)
2) A free book about Lightroom
I know a lot of you don’t have Lightroom, but I got it for Christmas, and I’m still a total noob at using it.
So, I’m super pleased that there’s also a free ebook about using Lightroom. I’ve only learned how to do super basic stuff in Lightroom thus far, and I think this book is gonna be helpful for me.
I’m only on page 36 of 211 (!), but so far I’ve picked up plenty of new info.
(How did I not know about the toggle switch before??)

Even if you’re not super into photography and you only post photos on Facebook or Instagram, do download the composition freebie!
The easy tips in there will help make your photos more eye-catching and memorable, and that’ll make your pictures way more fun to share on Facebook and Instagram.
(P.S. When you sign up for the free downloads, you’ll have the option to purchase more books/chapters from the same author at a steep discount. But you do NOT have to do that. The freebies are 100% free.)

Thanks! These are awesome freebies. I'm ALWAYS trying to improve my photography. I take such pride in the pictures I take of my kids. It means so much more to me to do them myself than to hire a professional.
What do you think of Lightroom? I'm still on Photoshop Elements 12 and I'm still learning.

I had Photoshop Elements before, and I HATED it. It felt super clunky and it was hard to figure out how to do anything. Lightroom is a lot more intuitive, and I like that it can both organize AND edit my photos.

As an avid photographer (and budding travel/adventure photographer), there is always something to be learned about photography. Thanks for these links, will definitely download these freebies.
It's all about composition (oh, and contrast). :)

Just wanted to say thanks for your tips!I don't have kids, but I've started getting down on my dog's eye-level to take photos of him, and the new perspective is so fun and different! I love how something so simple makes a huge difference in photo quality!

Yes! Getting down is such an important skill. It works great for food too. And flowers!

I am even more of a noob than you are - what's Lightroom?

Lightroom is an Adobe photo editing/cataloging program. Way simpler than Photoshop, though! I tried Photoshop Elements and hated it, but I'm loving Lightroom, even though I know I'm barely scratching the surface of its potential.

Kristen, have you ever used Printerpix for photo books? I saw a Groupon for one, but have not really heard of them before. Thanks.

I haven't! AdoramaPix is my slightly more expensive favorite and my second favorite is My Publisher.
