I'm from Walnut Creek, CA. Our former City Historian, Brad Rovanpera, is a lifelong Monticello fan. When he retired (early), he and his wife sold their home and moved to Virginia so that he could become a docent. He is an accomplished photographer, has written several history books and is a very engaging speaker. Next time you visit, see if you can get one of Brad's tours. Few people follow their passion to his degree and he is a wonderful tour guide. Even if you've been there before, you are sure to learn something new.

I grew up in NoVA and my ultimate favorite place is Mount Vernon but I do enjoy Monticello quite a bit. Haven't been there in years, I do miss the "old" history living out in Arizona now, pueblo ruins aren't just as impressive or exciting to me.

How cool! My son just learned about Jefferson, Monticello, the Declaration, etc. in his 3rd grade history class. Too bad we're not closer for a field trip to Monticello. It's a bit far from Texas. :) We would really love to see this as well as D.C. someday.

I LOVE Monticello. I live all the way in IOWA, but each March I bring a group of 7th graders to D.C for Spring Break. For many years, we took a day trip from D.C. to either Monticello or Williamsburg, but this year, we are skipping both to spend more time in D.C. I am a bit sad about it because I love Monticello so much!

Oh, I've always wanted to visit Monticello and see that beautiful produce garden, too. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your overnight trip there. Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather :)
